won 1988 Heisman Trophy as junior at Oklahoma St.; all-time NCAA single season leader in rushing (2,628 yards), scoring (234 points) and TDs (39); 4-time NFL rushing leader with Detroit Lions (1990,94,96,97); NFC Rookie of Year (1988); 2-time NFL Player of Year 1991,97); NFC MVP (1994); rushed for 2,053 yards in 1997; No. 3 all-time rusher (15,269 yds); abruptly retired just prior to 1999 season; inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
