NBA champion as reserve forward with New York in 1973 (injured when Knicks won in ‘70); coached Chicago to six NBA titles in eight years (1991-93, 96-98); coach of the year in 1996 and 97; returned to coach the LA Lakers in 1999 and won 3 more titles (2000,01,02); all-time leader in winning pct. for NBA coaches with 350 or more wins; left Lakers after 2004 Finals loss to Detroit, but return to LA was announced in June 2005; all-time NBA leader in playoff wins (175).
