Alex Comfort

writer, physician, poet, and pacifist who wrote the 12-million-copy seller The Joy of Sex: A Gourmet Guide to Lovemaking, which was first published in 1972. The illustrated manual helped remove the taboo surrounding sex, encouraging couples to experiment with an assortment of positions. He wrote 51 books, several plays, and several books of poetry.

Died: Banbury, England, 3/26/2000
