Fastball alternative punk-pop band
Known as Magneto USA until 1996, the band came together after Austin-raised Joey Shuffield (drums and percussion) introduced Tony Scalzo (vocals and bass) to Miles Zuniga (vocals and guitar). The band's 1997 Hollywood release Make Your Mama Proud showcased their humor, if it didn't make them as famous as they'd hoped. Their second album released in 1998, All the Pain Money Can Buy, did much better. It contained their hit single “The Way,” which won them two Grammy nominations and an MTV Award nomination for Best New Artist. In contrast, The Harsh Light of Day, in 2000, fell off the charts after three weeks. Joey Shuffield Born: 12/28/1961
Miles Zuniga Born: 9/10/1966 Birthplace: Laredo, Texas
Tony Scalzo Born: 5/6/1964 Birthplace: Honolulu, Hawaii
