The End of the Affair| Director/Writer: | Neil Jordan | | Columbia Pictures; R; 105 minutes | | Release: | 12/99 | | Cast: | Ralph Fiennes, Julianne Moore, Stephen Rea |
The End of the Affair is a striking adaptation of Graham Greene's semi-autobiographical novel dealing with passionate love, faith, and betrayal. In a role that favorably recalls his performance in The English Patient, Ralph Fiennes plays a man ravaged by a wartime affair with a married woman. That woman, Sarah Miles, is brought to life in a nuanced performance by Julianne Moore. Period details of World War II London form a sultry backdrop to the tale told in a complex yet fluid series of flashbacks.
