Chrissie Hynde has served as songwriter, guitarist, and lead singer of the Pretenders, the band she helped to found in 1978. Hynde established herself as a gifted songwriter with the top-selling single, “Brass in Pocket,” on the band's first release, The Pretenders (1980). Subsequent releases have produced “Middle of the Road”, “Show Me”, and “Back on the Chain Gang” (all three from 1984's Learning to Crawl), “Don't Get Me Wrong” (from 1986's Get Close) and “I'll Stand by You” (from Last of the Independents (1994). Two of the band's songs were featured in the motion picture G.I. Jane. Hynde lived in London for more than twenty years, but in 2004 moved to Brazil to work with Brazilian musician Moreno Veloso.
