Counting Crows
rock band
Rock band whose records include August and Everything After
(1993), one of the bestselling albums of 1994, and Recovering the
Satellites (1996). Formed by vocalist Adam Durtiz and guitarist
David Bryson in San Francisco in 1991, the band developed a strong local
following and signed with Geffen Records. Their first album was produced
by T. Bone Burnett and the single “Mr. Jones” (1993) became
the first of several hit songs. Counting Crows' rich sound and Duritz's
languid voice have drawn comparisons to classic rock groups such as Van Morrison and The
Band.
