Michael York

Birthplace: Fulmer, England

Versatile actor whose fined-boned good looks and skill have brought him a broad range of film and TV roles. In his 30-plus-year career, York has acted in at least 80 films for the small and big screen. His roles range from Shakespeare to slapstick comedy and swashbuckling adventures. York played D'Artagnan in 1974's The Three Musketeers and waited 15 years to reprise the role in The Return of the Musketeers (1989). Other roles include Brian Roberts in Cabaret (1972), the title character in The Last Remake of Beau Geste (1977), and Murdstone in the TV movie of David Copperfield (1993). More recently, he played Basil Exposition in the comedy hit Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) and its sequel Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), and co-starred with Leslie Nielsen in Wrongfully Accused (1998), a sendup of The Fugitive TV series and movie. His autobiography, The Travelling Player, was published in 1991.
