Junior Kimbrough

(David Kimbrough)
guitarist and singer
Born: 7/28/1930
Birthplace: Hudsonville, Mississippi

David “Junior” Kimbrough taught himself music by listening to recordings of the great Mississsippi Delta bluesmen whose ranks he would ultimately join. He released his first single, “Tramp”, in 1968 and for the rest of his life played regularly at juke joints in his native Delta. There he caught the attention of journalist Robert Palmer, who included Kimbrough in the 1991 documentary Deep Blues. This appearance led to his first national recording contract (with Fat Possum), and he subsequently released three albums, including the acclaimed All Night Long (1992).

Died: 1/17/1998
