Bob Keeshan (Robert James Keeshan)

Birthplace: Lynbrook, Long Island, New York
Prominent figure in the development of programming for children, Keeshan began his career by creating the character of Clarabell the Clown for the Howdy Doody Show (1947–52). He developed the format for and wrote the scripts for the Captain Kangaroo show (1955–85), winning over generations of children and their parents through innovative approaches to interesting topics. Died: Jan. 23, 2004
