Jonathan Demme director, producer, screenwriter Born: 2/22/1944 Birthplace: Baldwin, New York
Having entered into feature-film making in the early 1970s, he is noted for the fast-paced, edgy style of some of his later films, including Something Wild (1986). He also directed the Talking Heads' concert film Stop Making Sense (1984), the psychological thriller The Silence of the Lambs (1991), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Director, Philadelphia (1993), and Beloved (1998).
