Noted nearly as much for her counterculture upbringing (Timothy Leary was her godfather) as for her acting ability, Thurman moved to New York City at 15 to pursue an acting career. After debuting in the forgettable Kiss Daddy Good Night (1987), she made a splash in Dangerous Liaisons (1988). Her other films include Henry and June (1990), Pulp Fiction (1994), for which she earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination, The Truth About Cats and Dogs (1996), and The Golden Bowl (2000). She starred as The Bride in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Vols. 1 and 2 (2003, 2004) and she appeared in the movie musical version of The Producers (2005). She is divorced from actors Ethan Hawke and Gary Oldman.
