Truman Capote (Truman Streckfus Persons) writer Born: 9/30/1924 Birthplace: New Orleans
A novelist, playwright, and short-story writer, Capote's early coming of age stories continued the Southern gothic tradition. He later moved toward an increasingly journalistic approach to writing, including both fiction and non-fiction in his last publications. Among his most famous works are Breakfast at Tiffany's (1958; film, 1961) and In Cold Blood (1965). Died: 8/25/1984
