Harold Melvin singer Born: 6/25/1939 Birthplace: Philadelphia
A major figure in the development of soul music, Melvin founded the Blue Notes in the 1950s. He led this R&B group to fame in the 1970s with hits such as“ If You Don't Know Me by Now” and “Wake Up Everybody”, featuring vocalist Teddy Pendergrass. Melvin was both a singer and choreographer for the group. Died: 3/24/1997
