Jean-Jacques Annaud director, screenwriter Born: 10/1/1943 Birthplace: Draveil, France
Known particularly for his period pieces, he won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film for his debut effort Black and White in Color (1976), which takes place in French West Africa c. 1914. His other films include Quest for Fire (1981), The Name of the Rose (1986), The Bear (1988), and most recently Seven Years in Tibet (1997).
