Mary Lou Lord

Got No Shadow

  • Work/Sony

Boston-based indie fave Mary Lou Lord, who got her start singing in subway stations, crosses the tracks to the land of major labels and polished production on this impressive full-length debut. The album brims with splendor, from the sparkling guitar opening of “His Latest Flame” and the Studio 54 fable “Throng of Blowtown” to the magnificent centerpiece “Some Jingle Jangle Morning” and the irresistible slide-laced cover of Freedie Johnston's “Lucky-One.” A tad derivative at times, overall Lord emerges as a fresh new voice with spunk, charm, and a sense of melody that's as strong as her sense of direction.
