Kiss Me Guido

Director/Writer: Tony Vitale
Director of Photography:Claudia Raschke
Editor:Alexander Hall
Music:Randall Poster
Production Designer:Jeffrey Rathaus
Producers:Ira Deutchman and Christine Vachon
Paramount; R; 91 minutes
Release:7/97
Cast:Nick Scotti, Anthony Barrile, Anthony DeSando, Craig Chester, Christopher Lawford and David Deblinger

A dynamic tale of mistaken sexual identity that comes up short because Vitale never fully develops the plot or characters. Lonesome and broke, actor Warren (Barrile) needs a roommate and takes out a classified looking for “Actors preferably; GWM.” It's a perfect fit, thinks winsome guido Frankie (Scotti), who thinks GWM means “Guy With Money.” Bronx native (and homophobe) Frankie gets the final push to move into the city to pursue acting when he finds his brother, Pino (DeSando) in bed with his fianceé. Cultures clash, but the unlikely roommates hit it off. Born and raised in the Bronx, Vitale captures the essence of the borough and its inhabitants, but his portrayal of gays comes off as offensively stereotypical.
