Academy Award-winning comic and dramatic actor who won consecutive Oscars for Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994). He also starred in the offbeat comedies Splash (1984) and Big (1988) and the romances Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and You've Got Mail (1998). Hanks continued to garner good reviews in Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan (1998) and The Green Mile (1999). His directorial debut came with the feel-good '50s film That Thing You Do!
