He produced One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975). Later in his career, Douglas was among several mature actors who starred in films opposite much younger women. He starred in A Perfect Murder (1998) opposite Gwyneth Paltrow. He is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones (2000). His father is actor Kirk Douglas.
