Hassan Nasrallah,

secretary-general of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, directed a July raid on Israel that resulted in the death of eight Israeli soldiers and the abduction of two others. Israel responded with deadly cross-border attacks that thrust the Middle East into tense chaos for more than a month. A soft-spoken intellectual, Nasrallah is one of the most powerful and respected militant leaders in the Middle East. Hezbollah, which means “Party of God,” receives funding, weapons, and political support from both Syria and Iran. After the cease-fire, Hezbollah handed out cash to Lebanese civilians to help rebuild their devastated homes and businesses.
