Janette Carter

Age: 82

singer and autoharp player who was the last surviving member of the Carter Family, an influential group that sang traditional folk music of the southern Appalachian Mountains. After the death of her father, A. P., a founding member of the group, Janette created the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Va., a center dedicated to preserving her family's music and that of Appalachia.
