Sandy Berger,

former national security adviser to President Clinton, stepped down as a senior adviser to Sen. John Kerry in July, after it was leaked that the Justice Department is investigating him for removing highly classified documents from the National Archives. He was reviewing the papers in 2003, while preparing for his testimony before the commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Berger said the documents got mixed up with other papers in his portfolio.
