Hugh Trevor-Roper Age: 89
British historian and prolific writer whose best-selling book The Last Days of Hitler remains the definitive account of the fall of the Third Reich. His reputation was marred in 1983, when, as chair of modern history at Oxford, he validated dozens of volumes of Hitler's diaries, which were later revealed to be forgeries. Died: Oxford, England, Jan. 26, 2003
