record-setting quarterback of the Baltimore Colts, whose black high-top cleats and dark crew cut remain indelible symbols of the franchise's success in the late 1950s and 1960s. He led the Colts to NFL titles in 1958 and 1959, and the 1959 overtime victory over the Giants is widely considered the greatest NFL game ever. Died: Towson, Md., Sept. 11, 2002
