Serena and Venus Williams, power-house professional tennis players, continued to dominate the courts throughout 2002 and propelled women's professional tennis to prime-time status. Serena won three consecutive Grand Slam tournaments: the French Open in June, Wimbledon in July, and the U.S. Open in September, earning herself a No. 1 ranking. It hasn't been a bad year for Venus, either. She's ranked No. 2, and made it to the finals in three of the year's four Grand Slam events. She placed No. 2, behind little sister Serena, in the U.S. and French Opens. Information Please® Database, © 2007 Pearson Education, Inc. All rights reserved.
