white supremacist who cofounded the National Alliance, the country's largest neo-Nazi group. Timothy McVeigh said Pierce's book, The Turner Diaries, about a violent uprising against the U.S. government, inspired him to blow up the Murrah Federal Building in 1995.

Died: Hillsboro, W.Va., July 23, 2002
