Austrian-born director and producer known for his scathing satires of American mores. Wilder, who won six Academy Awards, was a versatile director who shifted seamlessly from drama to comedy to film noir. His Oscar-winning films include The Lost Weekend, Sunset Boulevard, and The Apartment.
