John Geoghan, defrocked priest, was sentenced to nine to ten years in prison by a Massachusetts court following his conviction in January of indecent assault and battery for fondling a young boy in 1991. He is accused of sexually molesting about 130 children during his 30-year tenure as a priest. After Geoghan's case was made public, scores of other victims came forward throughout the country, and the Catholic church faced resounding criticism for its handling of the crisis.
