Sir Fred Hoyle astrophysicist Born: 6/24/1915 Birthplace: Bingley, Yorkshire, England
prominent astrophysicist who wrote extensively about cosmological theory, the belief that the universe is in a steady state of time and space. He mockingly coined the term “Big Bang” in the 1940s, ridiculing the theory that the universe originated with an explosion. In 1957 he contributed to groundbreaking papers about the origins of the elements. Died: Bournemouth, England, 8/20/2001
