Diane Whipple Age: 33
women's lacrosse coach at St. Mary's College (Moraga, Calif.), who was the victim of a dog attack that made national headlines; former head coach at UC-San Diego; two-time first team All-American at Penn St. and NCAA National Player of the Year in 1990. She died of injuries sustained when she was attacked by a neighbor's two dogs while trying to get into her apartment. Died: San Francisco, Jan. 26
