writer of gritty nonfiction crime stories that often chronicled the lives of Mafia figures. He collaborated with Mob turncoat Joseph Valachi in The Valachi Papers (1969), whistle-blower Marie Ragghianti for Marie (1983), and Sammy “The Bull” Gravano for Underboss (1997).
