Lowell Perry

Age: 69

All-American receiver at the University of Michigan in the 1950s, who later became the NFL's first black coach in more than 40 years; won Rose Bowl over California in 1951; injured in his sixth NFL game with Pittsburgh in 1956 and retired; became the Steelers receiver coach a year later; hired by CBS to broadcast games in 1966; served as a lawyer with the National Labor Relations Board and the Chrysler management team after football and appointed by President Gerald Ford to head the Equal Emplyment Opportunity Commission in 1975; He died of cancer.
