Marc Rich,

fugitive billionaire financier, received a last-minute pardon in January from President Clinton. The move outraged many on both sides of the political aisle. In 1983, Rich and his partner Pincus Green, who was also pardoned, were charged with cheating the government out of nearly $50 million and doing business with Iran during the hostage crisis. Rich fled to Switzerland, where he lived in luxury. The Justice Department began a criminal investigation to determine if the pardon was related to nearly $1 million in gifts to the Democratic Party and Clinton's library given by Rich's ex-wife, Grammy Award–winning songwriter Denise Rich.
