Gwen Verdon

Age: 75

Tony Award-winning actress and dancer who started performing at age 3 but didn't achieve stardom until she appeared in Broadway's Can-Can at age 28. Known for her high-kicking and seductive moves, Verdon is widely considered the best dancer in Broadway history. She collaborated with legendary choreographer Bob Fosse in several big-budget Broadway musicals, including Damn Yankees and Chicago. They were briefly married.

Died: Woodstock, Vt., Oct. 18, 2000
