civil-rights attorney who in 1958 won parole for Nathan Leopold, who, with Richard Loeb, was convicted in the 1924 killing of 14-year-old Bobby Franks. He also had the murder conviction of Lee Harvey Oswald killer, Jack Ruby, overturned. In addition, Gertz successfully defended Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer on obscenity charges.
