Robert Komer

diplomat and intelligence officer who served as President Johnson's “chief of pacification” in Vietnam. Pacification, a controversial propaganda campaign, sought to wrest control over the South Vietnamese from the Vietcong with information rather than guns. Later, he called the operation in Vietnam “a strategic disaster which cost us 57,000 lives and half a trillion dollars.”
