OF-1B who played on pennant-winning teams with the Mets in 1973 and the Pirates in 1979; led the Mets in HRs his first three full years in the majors; .306 average in 10 World Series games; retired after 1982 season; testified in two federal drug trials in 1985, admitting he purchased and used cocaine during the final four seasons of his career. He died of cancer. Died: East Point, Ga., Jan. 4
