Joyce Maynard,

45, writer and self-promoter, auctioned off the love letters reclusive author J. D. Salinger wrote her during their 9-month affair that began in 1972, when Maynard was a student at Yale. She earned $56,500 in the June auction, managed by Sotheby's. She said she plans to use the money for her children's college tuition.
