Mr. Prospector

Age: 29

the nation's leading thoroughbred sire who was said to have sired a North American-record 1,014 foals and 162 stakes winners through the end of 1998; champion offspring included 1982 Horse of the Year Conquistador Cielo, Tank's Prospect, Seeking the Gold and grandsons Unbridled and Coronado's Quest; won seven times and $112,171 in his career between 1973-74; was euthanized after being diagnosed with acute inflammation of the membrane lining his stomach.
