Charles Francis Brush engineer, inventorBorn: 3/17/1849 Birthplace: Euclid Township, Ohio After studying mining engineering at the University of Michigan, he worked as a chemist and an iron merchant. He ultimately concentrated his full-time efforts on inventing, most notably the arc light, which was adopted by the city of Cleveland in 1879. Its worldwide popularity made Brush a fortune, enabling him to spend his last years in theoretical research and philanthropy.
