Slobodan Milosevic,

President of Yugoslavia, was given stern warnings by NATO to withdraw Yugoslav troops and weapons from the ethnically Albanian province of Kosovo, which saw much bloodshed in 1998. U.S. special envoy Richard Holbrooke and NATO officials threatened air strikes as Milosevic dragged his heels until just before the NATO deadline in October.
