Waldo L. Semon

Born: 1898
Birthplace: Demopolis, Ala.

PVC plastisols—Semon's work turned polyvinyl chloride (PVC), first considered worthless, into the world's second-best selling plastic. He also provided the technical leadership that led to the discovery of thermoplastic polyurethane, synthetic “natural” rubber, and the first oil-resistant synthetic rubber. (1995)
