Dorothy West Age: 91
A member of the Harlem Renaissance during the 1920s, West was a keen observer of class and race conflicts. Recently, her novel The Wedding, was turned into a miniseries by Oprah Winfrey and starred actress Halle Berry. Died: Aug. 16, 1998.
