Mary Fendrich Hulman

chairman of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1977 and traditionally responsible for the famous command “Gentlemen, start your engines,” before each race; widow of Tony Hulman, who bought the struggling race track in 1945 and turned it into the richest auto race in the world; her daughter is now chairman of the board and her grandson, Tony George, is the president of the Speedway; of natural causes
