Tara Lipinski,

15, youngest U.S. and world figure skating champion and youngest individual athlete ever to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics, announced her decision to turn professional in April. This was not the first time she surprised figure skating fans; pre-Olympic hype had the public expecting Michelle Kwan to beat out Lipinski for the gold in Nagano. Kwan placed second.
