songwriter and singer who influenced rock 'n' roll in its early days by writing such hits as “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby.” Perkins was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Died: Jan. 19, 1998.
