A distinguished actor with a 46-year career spanning both Hollywood and European movies, he also has appeared prolifically on television. He has worked in such acclaimed films as The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Misfits (1961), The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (1966) opposite Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef, television's The Executioner's Song (1982) opposite Tommy Lee Jones, The Two Jakes (1990) with Jack Nicholson, and The Godfather: Part III (1990) with Al Pacino.
