Candace

Candace (kăn'dusē, kăndā'sē) [key], title for queens in ancient Ethiopia. One of them made war (c.22 B.C.) on the Roman governor of Egypt, who defeated her and destroyed Napata, her capital. Another Candace is mentioned in the Bible as the queen of the eunuch converted by Philip (Acts 8.27–39).
