M. C. Escher

Escher, M. C. (Maurits Cornelis Escher)môrˈĭts kôrnāˈləs ĕshˈər, Du. ĕsˈkhər, 1898–1972, Dutch artist. Primarily a graphic artist, Escher composed works notable for their irony, often with impossible perspectives rendered with mechanical verisimilitude. He created visual riddles, playing with the pictorially logical and the visually impossible.

See M. C. Escher, Escher on Escher (tr. 1989); B. Ernst, The Magic Mirror of M. C. Escher (tr. 1976, repr. 1994).
