Sex and Longing
Joan Marcus
A messy, mechanical comedy about Lulu (Weaver) and her roommate Bridget (Ivey), two insatiable sex addicts who wind up martyrs for the cross-bearing, liberal-hating religious right. Weaver manages to hold her own despite a lack of affinity for her character. Ivey's performance is the brightest spot. Her character, albeit loathsome, is electric. However, bereft of the acid wit and comic absurdity usually present in Durang's work, all that's left is obscene language and sexual explicitness, which adds little but shock value.
